Hi Guys!
Its good to be back. Have you missed me? There is no doubt that i missed doing this. There are a lot of things that give me joy and writing is one of them.
Another great love of mine is music. I love music, i love to listen to music and i love to sing as well. When it comes to the singing part , i am not that talented but i dappled in it a bit. I was part of the school choir for years ( secondary school) and i had the privilege of singing a couple of leads then. My voice was much better in the past, but after secondary school and my stint with a drama group when awaiting admission into the university, i lost the thirst to see myself singing on stage because....well... i knew there were millions out there better than me. I do not believe in mediocrity and anything worth doing is worth doing well. If i wanted to pursue singing, i would want to be AMAZING and i know that i am not , so i moved on....
I still love music. I love listening to the lyrics of well written songs and i can sit down just listening to the beats and sounds of different musical instruments blending together. Good music gives me goose bumps and sometimes i get teary eyed listening to music, i am that emotional. I love Alternative Rock( not the ear blistering hard metal type) and i have so many groups i love. Linkin Park, Nickelback, Maroon 5, Daughtry,Aerosmith.....etc...The list goes on. If its good i listen to it, no matter what genre it falls into. Classical and Celtic music are not left out. If am feeling out of sorts, music is a sure way of getting me into a better mood especially on Monday and Classic FM, never lets me down with their ' Rock Monday' line up. I love singing along to the all the time classics they belt out and to hell with the fact that am in the office.
While i was catching up on what i might have missed over the past week. I decided to read up on a blog that i follow www.thirdworldprofashional.com/( you should visit her site, she is a fashion blogger and i love the way she writes) and her latest post was about a Capella singing group called ' Pentatonix'. Pentatonix is a cappella group of five vocalists, Scott Hoying, Kirstie Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola, originating from Arlington, Texas. She was raving about them and went on and on about the group, so i decided to go to YouTube to check them out and see what the fuss was about. I fell in love. They are sooo talented and i could see why she went loco over them. I listened to their rendition of ' Somebody that i used to know'( Gotye Cover) and i was blown away. There is no doubt with God's mercy, they will succeed. Nothing beats raw talent and creativity.
Which brings me to the Nigerian Music industry. We have some amazing talented vocalists here but there is still room for improvement. The female artists like Tiwa Savage,Waje and Omawunmi are wonderful vocalists and i think 'Banky W' is also very good but we need to take it to the next level. I want to be a blown away and get goose pimples listening to a Nigerian artist. Am done with the club jams( i understand the commercial implications and they need to make money)but i know we can do sooooo much better. I love Nigerian music.
That being said, that's all for today and my ' Monday Musings'. Have a fab week guys...
