Sorry Sister....

I am upset this morning. I am very upset. I am upset at the unfairness of life and the fact that i have a green passport and that allows other countries subject i and my country men to indignity because our so called leaders can't do their jobs! Nothing works! NOTHING! The basic amenities that a country's goverment owes its citizenry are no where to be found. We have not had electricity in my area for over a week and i had to wear a rumpled shirt to the office today! ME! ( taking deep breaths).

Am sure some people will roll their eyes and think am being dramatic but do you blame me?  I woke up on Sunday morning to the news that the UK Home Office announced a pilot scheme under which visitors from six ' high risk' Afro -Asian countries including India, Pakistan and Nigeria will be required to furnish a £3000 bond for a 6 month visit visa, which they will forfeit if they overstay in Britain. Really? I guess my plans to travel to the UK to visit my sister's family has been put on indefinite hold. I simply cannot afford this small fortune. How many Britons can boast of £3000 in their accounts.  This new development will apply to holders of 6 months or applicants for 6 months visa which are considered the most vulberable to breaking imigration laws.

According to the Home Secretary Theresa May the objective of this bond 'is the next step in making sure our immigration system is more selective, bringing down net migration from hundreds of thousands to tens thousands while still welcoming the best and the brightest to Britain'. In essence they are saying ' please stay in your country and stop doing arronjurin kiri'( That's a Yoruba way of saying poke nose). As irritated as i am by this, i agree that it is a known fact that Nigerians in some countries indulge in some unscrupulous activities and illegalities that cast a bad light on our image but should everyone be punished.

Anyway, i hope this is a rude wake up call to Nigeria and its leaders that our country has no respect and integrity in the eyes of the international community. This is is the time to realise that we need to harness our efforts and resources and begin to build our country. The UK or any other country for that matter is not better blessed than we are. WHATEVER it is we are looking for out there can be achieved here. We can do this!

If not, we have just started being humiliated by European Countries. After all, the UK is our colonial master and if they can do this to us, then they can follow suit especially in this harsh economic times to generate revenue.

As for me, i and my green passport will just chill....

Till later folks

Live Love and Laugh
